Seasonal Skincare Tips for PMU Clients: Summer Edition

Summer is finally here in Rockville, MD! ☀️And while we all love a little sunshine, if you've recently had permanent makeup (PMU) done — brows, eyeliner, lips — it's time to give your skin some extra attention.
As a licensed esthetician with over 10 years of experience, I want to share my top summer skincare tips for PMU clients to help you protect your investment and keep your results looking flawless all season long.

☀️ 1. Sun Protection is a Must
Summer sun = faster fading. The pigments used in PMU are sensitive to UV rays, and too much sun can lead to discoloration or uneven fading.
Tips:
Wear a hat and sunglasses outside
Use a PMU-safe SPF 30+ stick (after healing)
Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours
Your PMU deserves shade and love!
💧 2. Stay Hydrated Inside and Out
Hot weather can leave your skin dry and stressed — not great when your skin is healing.
What you can do:
Drink lots of water (yes, every day!)
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
Apply a lightweight moisturizer that’s safe for healing skin
Healthy skin = better PMU retention and glow ✨
🚿 3. Keep It Clean (But Gently!)
During the first 7–10 days after your PMU treatment, your skin is extra delicate. You’ll need to cleanse the area with care.
Important:
Use only the cleanser or saline solution recommended during your aftercare
Avoid scrubbing or using makeup on the treated area
Steer clear of pools, oceans, and saunas while healing
A gentle touch goes a long way.
🏃♀️ 4. Avoid Heavy Sweating (Temporarily!)
I know... Maryland summers are HOT! But sweat can carry bacteria and interfere with your healing process.
Here’s what to do:
Skip intense workouts for the first 7–10 days
Opt for cool showers instead of hot baths
Gently blot sweat if needed (never wipe!)
Once you’re healed, feel free to get your sweat on again 💪
🧖♀️ 5. Keep Facials Simple
If you’re a skincare lover (like me!), summer is great for hydrating treatments — but skip anything aggressive post-PMU.
Stick with:
Hydrating facials
Soothing masks with aloe or chamomile
Avoid peels, retinol, or deep exfoliation near treated areas
Let your skin rest, refresh, and recover.
🌼 Final Thoughts: Protect Your PMU Investment
Following these summer skincare tips for PMU can help you enjoy long-lasting, beautiful results while keeping your skin happy and glowing.
